Astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope have captured the most comprehensive picture ever assembled of the evolving Universe — and one of the most colourful. The study is called the Ultraviolet Coverage of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (UVUDF) project.
A stellar nursery of about 3,000 stars called Westerlund 2 located about 20,000 light-years from the planet earth in the constellation Carina is shown in this undated NASA handout taken by the Hubble Space Telescope released April 23, 2015. NASA will marked the silver anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope Thursday. REUTERS/NASA/Handout via Reuters ATTENTION EDITORS – FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY. This image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope shows the galaxy cluster MACSJ0717.5+3745. This is one of six being studied by the Hubble Frontier Fields programme, which together have produced the deepest images of gravitational lensing ever made. Due to the huge mass of the cluster it is bending the light of background objects, acting as a magnifying lens. It is one of the most massive galaxy clusters known, and it is also the largest known gravitational lens. Of all of the galaxy clusters known and measured, MACS J0717 lenses the largest area of the sky.
When God said, “Let there be light!”
I bet there was a BIG BANG!
“By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of His mouth.” Psalm 33:6. “He determines the number of stars and calls them each by name.” Psalm 147:4.
The three images above are from the Hubble telescope. Point the hi-tech scope toward any point 360 degrees in any direction, and you’ll see more of the same. What’s behind them? No one really knows, but there are likely more galaxies.
Yet the God who spoke them into existence is greater, more powerful, more glorious, more beautiful, more mysterious than the sum total of all. He is mighty and merciful, infinite and present, so gentle that “He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.” Isaiah 40:11.
Way more than a “glimpse” of God, too much for the finite human mind to absorb.
P.S., If you are trying to put God in a box, He doesn’t fit…
P.P.S., When God said, “Let there be light!” I bet there was a Big Bang. (But He didn’t say it in English, in case you were wondering.)
